There's a new "Quarantine" type of patrol mission to find here too, which is essentially just an assassination mission against a splicer priest. It's quite a big space to explore though, much larger than last year's new area the Dreadnaught. Yes, now this is a new area off to the side of the old Cosmodrone on Earth, it's very similar to the cosmodrone, except a bit more plague-y things are foggy and there are chunks of SIVA infested stuff around the place. But let's talk about some of the other new stuff here like the new patrol zone, The Plaguelands! Yeah, the raid is really only for die-hard Destineers who treat it as more of a entire hobby than a game. I just said, no thanks, stick a fork in me Destiny because I'm done. But when the reality sunk in of how many hours I'd need to put in to get good enough gear to do it.

It's Grinding Simulator Hex! Like, I do really enjoy destiny and I had fun playing through this, I was even keen to maybe give the new raid a go. Yes, it certainly can be a bit of a grind if you want to get to those high levels. Well that's certainly a big part of it, but from my experience at its core it's mostly about grinding for gear. But let's face it, Destiny is less about the story, and more about blasting through alien hordes and looking cool doing it. Yeah, it took me awhile to get my bearings back and I'm certainly no wiser to the mysteries of Destiny lore having played through the DLC. What the hell do I do with this? Do I still need these things? What do these icons mean? I had to send our resident destiny expert a plea for help to explain what was going on. I also just found it a bit confusing to get back into in general. Yeah, none of the expansions have helped explain or advance the story from the core game, they just kind of, create more stuff around the edges. So as soon as the story starts, you've already finished it, and once again Hex at the end of it I was left feeling confused by what the hell is happening in Destiny. And there's only I think five new "story" missions in this expansion which you can get through in a couple of hours. So you set out to stop the zombie virus, and that's pretty much the story. Well, it's not bringing anything back from the dead so it's not technically a zombie virus. So, really it's another type of space zombie virus. Although they don't fight that differently from regular fallen. And apparently back in the day they developed a sort of nano-technology called SIVA, which they thought could restore humanity to greatness.īut it didn't and of course it turned into some sort of evil self aware space plague, which all but one of the Iron Lords ended up sacrificing themselves to contain.Īnd now the Fallen has found out about it and for some reason think they should use it to "splice" with themselves and become more powerful. Well let's start with the story, which focuses around the Iron Lords who were a group of soldiers that existed before Guardians were a thing. Which sounds like a lot, but when you play it back to back, it's like 3 hours.

But what do we get here? Well the major dot points are there are new story missions, plus a few more exotic weapon quests, a new patrol area and social space, a new multiplayer mode and some maps, one new strike and a raid. I kind of got the feeling most of the team must've been busy working away on Destiny 2.

Yeah, it's especially disappointing when you consider we got three expansions in year one, but this year, this is all we get. Last year's major expansion, The Taken King, brought a lot of content and significant changes which really justified diving back in. Now, first things first, I have to admit I was expecting a bit more from this. So that means it's back for its latest and possibly last expansion before Destiny 2 arrives.
